Southeastern District Health Department to Celebrate National Safe Kids Week

The Southeastern District Health Department (SDHD) along with Safe Kids Southeastern Idaho will celebrate this year’s National Safe Kids Week by hosting their annual spring Safety Fair. The fair will be held at the Pine Ridge mall in Pocatello, and will be held in conjunction with the Maternity Fair sponsored by the Portneuf MedicalCenter.

This year’s safety fair promises to be bigger and better than ever. Some of the scheduled events and displays include a bicycle safety course, finger printing by the Chubbuck Police Department, the seatbelt convincer, and child restraint inspections by appointment. In addition, the fair will also feature the Pocatello Fire Department’s Home Safety Trailer, the Life-Flight helicopter, and Smokey the Bear. KPVI Channel 6, Success by Six, University of Idaho Extension, Miracles in Motion, and Home Depot, will sponsor other activities.

The safety fair is being held in conjunction with National Safe Kids Week, and is being put on by SDHD and Safe Kids Southeastern Idaho Coalition, in cooperation with the Portneuf Medical Center and other community partners.

This year’s National Safe Kids Week theme is Splash into Safety, and will focus on the spectrum of unintentional injuries. The National Safe Kids Campaign along with Safe Kids Southeastern Idaho is the first and only national non-profit organization in the U.S. dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury. Their goal is to change attitudes, behavior, and the environment to make life safer for children.
