Kids Need to Hurry – Entries Due for Creative Kids Exhibit

Time is drawing near for kids, ages 8-15 years to enter the Creative Kids Exhibit at the Puyallup Spring Fair. This annual event at the Puyallup Fairgrounds features a free gate admission ticket to the Puyallup Spring Fair for all entrants so they can see their work on display.

This year the exhibit will be displayed in a different building, Expo Hall, while the fairgrounds is undergoing facility expansion. It will be housed with KidZone, an interactive exhibit geared specifically to kids featuring a wide range of free and fun youth activities.

This exhibit was designed specifically for children ages 8-15. It includes divisions in art, baking, creative writing, photography, textiles, bird houses and bird feeders, and an egg drop contest. Last year 1,182 children submitted 1,642 entries.

There is no fee to enter. Entries for each division in the contest will be accepted Thursday, April 8 and Friday, April 9 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds in Expo Hall. Entries will be accepted those two days only, and can be delivered by the entrant, their teacher, parent or other representative. No mailed entries will be accepted.

There are two age divisions so that children can best exhibit their creativity and skill. They are 8 to 11 years, and 12 to 15 years. The two age divisions apply to all divisions in the Creative Kids Exhibit.

The creative writing division includes prose, poetry, haiku and essays. Each entry is limited to two double-spaced 8-1/2 x 11 pages, 12 font or larger , or hand printed.

Again this year, an award will be presented by the Washington Association of Wheat Growers for the most outstanding wheat exhibits in the yeast bread category of the baking division. Seattle Fudge will again be sponsoring the division’s candy contest.

The egg drop contest, sponsored by Wilcox Farms, displays the containers throughout the Spring Fair. They are then filled and dropped on April 18. Both individuals and groups may enter.

Back by popular demand is the Potato Bar, thanks to the Washington State Potato Commission, where Fair guests use their creativity with potatoes and provided supplies to make their unique Mr. Potato Head. Fair guests will also enjoy other free activities with Girl Scouts - Pacific Peaks Council, and the Pierce Stream Team.

Local experts experienced in the art, creative writing, baking, bird house and feeders, photography, and textile fields will judge those categories. Ribbons and rosettes will be awarded. Entries will be displayed in Expo Hall during the Puyallup Spring Fair.
