Area Homeless Children Get Jampacks For Start Of School
In honor of National Volunteer Week, the Junior League of Northern Virginia and Sallie Mae announced that they are
partnering to launch this year's JamPacks a program that supplies backpacks well-stocked
with school supplies to area homeless children throughout Northern Virginia.
The JamPacks program is part of our continued effort to support homeless children in
our community by ensuring they are properly equipped for a successful school year, said Beth
Redmond, president of the JLNV. With the help of SallieMae, we are hopeful that National
Volunteer Week will inspire other local companies and the community to work together to make
a positive difference in the lives of homeless families.
Sallie Mae employees will recognize National Volunteer Week by not only donating
supplies and stuffing backpacks for area homeless children, they also will be
visiting local shelters to read to children and promote literacy.
As a company, we are committed to providing America’s students with the resources
they need to prepare for and gain acceptance to college, said Kristen Piersol of Sallie Mae.
The JamPacks program is a perfect vehicle for our company and our employees to recognize
National Volunteer Week as it’s designed to give deserving children in our community the
support, encouragement and resources that are needed to find success in school.
