National Association for Gifted Children Hosting Its 50th Annual Convention

Only days after the Chief Council of State School Officers ended its annual conference in Indianapolis, the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) arrived. The NAGC is holding its 50th annual convention in downtown Indianapolis.

This is a tremendous continuing education opportunity for not only our Indiana teachers, but for teachers from all over the nation and around the world. We work so hard in each of our schools to move the lower performing or disadvantaged students performance up-and we must continue those efforts, but we also must never forget to advocate for opportunities for our most able students to reach their potential, said Dr. Suellen Reed, Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Convention participants have the opportunity to choose from and attend over 470 presentations in 16 topic areas that include creativity, counseling and guidance, curriculum studies, parent and community, the arts, middle grades, special populations, and highlighted secondary school presentations. Attendees also have the chance to browse in the exhibit hall, hear keynote speakers who are leaders in area specialties, and spend time discussing issues of common concern with colleagues from across the country and around the world.

Today, convention attendees are attending action labs at various Indianapolis locations, including: Conner Prairie, Sycamore School for the Gifted, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The NAGC is an organization of parents, educators, other professionals, and community leaders united to address the unique needs of children and youth with demonstrated gifts and talents, as well as children and youth who may be able to develop their talent and potential with appropriate educational experiences.
