Moore Votes To Make Internet Kid-Friendly
As part of a continuing effort to protect children from pornography, violence, and other inappropriate material online, Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District – Kansas) today voted to create a kid-friendly Internet domain.
The Internet is a wonderful source of information for children and adults alike. But there are things online that children shouldn’t see. It is difficult for parents to keep track of every site their children visit and filters don’t block out all inappropriate sites, said Moore.
I have four grandchildren and I want to give their parents the tools to make sure they’re not exposed to inappropriate materials online, said Moore. By creating the dot-kids domain, parents will know that when their children visit a dot-kids site, they are safe from violent, sexually explicit, or other inappropriate materials.
The Dot Kids bill would create a new Internet domain – .kids.us – that would be set aside for child-friendly websites. This would give parents the ability to restrict their children’s Internet surfing to dot-kids websites. Parents would then be assured their children would be safe from inappropriate content. All websites available in the new domain would be suitable for children under 13 years of age.
This does not solve the problem of children being able to access inappropriate materials online, but it does give parents a place their kids can surf safely, said Moore. As District Attorney, I worked to protect children from abuse. I’ll continue to work to protect kids in Congress through this and other child-friendly bills.
