Interactive Online Safety Program Teaches Kids to Surf Safer on the Internet

Viewpoint Corporation, a world leader in interactive graphics, today announced that the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Boys & Girls Clubs of America have recently introduced an all new online safety program for children, the NetSmartz Workshop, in technological collaboration with Viewpoint.

Viewpoint helped the NetSmartz Workshop develop the interactive online tutorial for B&GCA’s 3,100 Clubs. The tutorial educates children of all ages about the benefits and dangers of the Internet and is comprised of a collection of 3-D characters who teach children about Internet safety. These multimedia animations, created by Viewpoint, include trusted and sinister personalities requiring a total of 13 unique characters, including the corresponding animated environments and props. NCMEC & B&GCA unveiled their entire NetSmartz program last week during a ceremony at Boys & Girls Clubs of greater Washington.

The Internet, while a great learning tool, can be a dangerous place for children to explore, noted Rick Minicucci, chief technology officer of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Viewpoint has created characters who have great interactivity, visual fidelity, and the ability to reach children with an important message. The NetSmartz characters truly engage kids, effectively teaching them valuable Internet safety lessons.

We are proud to have worked with such an important organization and for a really worthwhile cause, commented Tom Morgan, executive vice president of operations for Viewpoint. To develop fun, innovative, and exciting characters who assist the safety of children is particularly satisfying.
