African-American Museum in Dallas becomes the first Texas retailer to carry Gumbo Kids Products
Today, the Gumbo Kids Company, LLC, a Denver-based company, announces the expansion of their product line to retailers in Texas. The African American Museum in Dallas becomes the first retailer in Texas to carry the Gumbo Kids line of innovative products.
We are extremely excited to carry the Gumbo Kids products in the Museum store, said Vanessa Hicks, Manager of Retail Operations, African American Museum said, We think that the products are really unique, and the story behind the company is inspiring; we are looking forward to carrying more new products as they are added.
The Museum store will sell Gumbo Kids number flash cards, ABC Travel Practice Pads, and large ABC Writing Tablets, along with screen printed logo T-Shirts.
The Gumbo Kids Company, LLC is a business inspired by a chance remark that drove stay-at-home mom Monica Simmons into the
grasp of an entrepreneurial venture. In an attempt to address a painful yet inspiring experience suffered by her three-year-old
daughter Journey.
Having recently moved from a very diverse neighborhood to the suburbs, Journey was told by a young classmate
that she wouldn’t play with her because of her brown skin. Unsuccessful in her search for products that addressed diversity issues creatively and realistically, Monica decided to produce the very products she could not find on the market.
We are so pleased to have the product line expand to retailers outside of Colorado, and especially thrilled that the products are available in the African American Museum Store, a place where we know diversity is celebrated everyday, said Monica Simmons, President & CEO of Gumbo Kids.
